German women’s relay races to the podium in the “Wild West”.

The German biathletes achieved a top placing in the last relay race of the season. In the end, there was only one team ahead of them in Soldier Hollow.

After the men’s event, the women’s team from the German Ski Association (DSV) also achieved a podium finish in the relay at the World Cup in Soldier Hollow. At the 2002 Olympic facility, Julia Kink, just 20 years old, safely crossed the finish line in second place. The quartet from Norway won.

In the last relay race of the season, Janina Hettich-Walz, Selina Grotian, Vanessa Voigt and debutante Kink were only 17.2 seconds behind the Scandinavians after seven reloads on the track in the US state of Utah in the “Wild West” of the USA.

Compensation for poor sprint performance

The DSV women, for whom double junior world champion Kink replaced the ailing Sophia Schneider as last runner at short notice, celebrated their fourth relay podium this season.

Germany was at the forefront throughout the race, and a duel with the Norwegians for victory became apparent early on. In the end, the overall World Cup leader Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold prevailed against Kink. The 20-year-old still showed a strong performance in her second race. Sweden secured third place.
