German women miss a double victory – but really come up trumps

The German biathletes really come up trumps at the end of the season. In the mass start from Otepää, it even looked like a double victory at times. In the end it was enough for a podium finish.

Denise Herrmann underlined her impressive form. The Olympic gold medalist from Beijing finished second in the 12.5 mass start in Otepää for her fourth World Cup podium this season.

Franziska Preuss in fifth place and Vanessa Voigt in sixth place rounded off a strong result for the German Ski Association (DSV) team.

Preuss hands over the victory

After two misses, Herrmann was only narrowly beaten by the Swede Elvira Öberg (one miss). She was 4.5 seconds back. Third was Marte Olsbu Röiseland from Norway(1/+4.8).

Preuss missed the second World Cup win of her career with one penalty on the last standing (+8.1). The 28-year-old had previously led well ahead of Herrmann.

When asked what happened during the last shooting, Preuss replied on the ARD microphone: “Actually nothing. I went there as normal, didn’t think too much and shot through my rhythm normally. One can just go wrong. That’s clear It’s annoying, but overall I’m satisfied with just one mistake.” For Preuss, fifth place after a messed-up season was a ray of hope.

Voigt, who finished second in the sprint on Friday for the first time, shot clean again. You missed Öberg by 13.8 seconds.
