The German wheelchair basketball players missed the final at the European Championships in Rotterdam and thus missed the early qualification for the Paralympics in Paris 2024. In the European Championship semifinals they lost to Great Britain 34:57 (23:33). In the match for third place on Friday (5:30 p.m.) against Spain, bronze is at stake.
Although they were able to beat the British women in the group phase by 48:43, the German women were clearly at a disadvantage in their second meeting at the European Championship. However, the Paralympics train has not yet left because of the defeat. By reaching the semi-finals, the German team can still qualify for the last places at the Paralympics via a so-called repechage tournament in April.
The men’s national team has the chance to complete the Paralympics qualification on Thursday. After the quarter-final win against Italy (69:63) on Wednesday, like the women in the semifinals on Thursday (5.30 p.m.), they will meet the still undefeated Brits.
