German volleyball players impress at World Cup dress rehearsal

The German volleyball players won their last endurance test before the World Cup and made an impressive comeback.

The team of national coach Vital Heynen defeated the Olympic silver medalist Brazil 3:2 (23:25, 16:25, 25:21, 25:19, 15:13) in the dress rehearsal on Saturday. Germany was already 0:2 behind in Berlin, but then managed to catch up.

Next week the World Cup will start in the Netherlands and Poland (September 23 to October 15), Germany will meet Bulgaria on September 25 (7 p.m./sportdeutschland.tv) in Arnhem. Other opponents in the difficult Group C are Olympic champions USA and world champions Serbia as well as Canada and Kazakhstan.

Heynen sees the group as “the strongest in the tournament, with two absolutely world-class teams battling to win the group. Canada, Bulgaria and Germany will be the three teams battling for progress.”

The top four teams in each group advance to the second round. In this, the German women failed at the last World Cup in Japan in 2018, in the end they reached 11th place there.
