German Unity Day: 10 good, new songs about more cohesion

To celebrate October 3rd, we’re sharing 10 tracks that celebrate more connection.

German Unity Day is coming up. Reason enough to think once again about sticking together, supporting each other and being for each other. Whether through friends, family or (even) strangers – everything just becomes a little nicer when you add a feeling of community. That’s why we want to dedicate this playlist entirely to connection. We all know track giants like “I’ll Stand By You” by the Pretenders or “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King, which convey just such a good feeling. But some new support songs have also been released in recent years that we want to share with you to celebrate the day. Here we go!

1. Bon Iver – “PDLIF”

There are enough things in the world that can scare you. Nevertheless, we can choose not to live entirely in a state of fear and not let it stop us from doing what we want – even when everything doesn’t seem certain. In “PDILF (Please don’t live in fear),” Bon Iver tells us exactly that and encourages us to believe in it.

2. Florence & The Machine – “Light of Love”

Even though everything around us can seem dreary and dark, if we remember that we have love and connection in our lives, a lot can be overcome. As Florence Welch aptly sings in her song “Light of Love”: The light of love shines in all of us.

3. The 1975 – “Human Too”

Just as important as mutual support is forgiving each other and seeing mistakes for what they are: human. The 1975 put it well: We should know that we are all human, people sometimes do things wrong, but we are who we are and that’s okay.

4. Sorrow feat. Fred Rabe – “THE LAST SONG (EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE)”

As the last song of his solo project, Kummer gave us an absolute song diamond. He sums it up with the lyric “People are bad and the world is screwed, but everything will be okay.” Even if obstacles are put in our way and many things seem hopeless, we should remind each other: Everything will be okay.

5. Gang of Youths – “Say Yes to Life”

In a fast-moving world, it’s easy to get lost in it, not knowing how to adapt and how to function. In such situations it is important not to lose faith in yourself, in others and in life or as Gang of Youths would say: “It’s okay not to be so alright but don’t be alone“.

6. Danger Dan – “Good News”

One fact that unites us all is the certainty that we will one day die. However, this doesn’t have to be a reason for permanent sadness, but can also remind us to have a good time together – even if we already know the end of the song.

7. Taylor Swift – “right where you left me”

In a painful but equally beautiful way, Taylor Swift reminds us with the track “right where you left me” what happens when we don’t stick together and instead act recklessly selfish. So here comes a little reminder to take care of the people who are left alone.

8. Inhaler – “Love Will Get You There”

Love will get you there. There is no need to add anything more to this message. When she comes around the corner with a rousing indie rock melody, we’ll take Inhaler’s advice even more readily.

9. Nina Chuba – “Not Alone”

“Suffering shared is suffering halved”: We have probably all heard the saying many times and no matter how old it may be, it is still true. In her ballad, Nina Chuba sings about exactly this attitude. She puts it like this: “You’re not alone, we could share this, let me cry for you.”

10. Marshmello & Halsey – “Be Kind

In conclusion, it doesn’t always take a lot to be there for someone, to support each other and to stick together. Sometimes it’s enough to just be there and say to each other: I’m there for you.
