Injured in friendly
The German U21s will have to do without Ansgar Knauff at the upcoming European Championships in Georgia and Romania (June 21 to July 8). As reported by the DFB and the 21-year-old’s employer, Eintracht Frankfurt, the winger suffered a broken collarbone in the friendly against Switzerland on Friday evening and has already left the training camp in South Tyrol.
“The news of Ansgar’s injury hit us all hard. His absence is an awful shame for him personally and a great loss for the whole team – now we have to work even closer together,” said coach Antonio Di Salvo. In accordance with UEFA regulations, the association can make a subsequent nomination in the event of such injuries even after the official squad has been announced, the DFB announced in this context. “We will decide in a timely manner who we nominate for him,” explained Di Salvo. Already in the middle of the week Jordan Beyer (FC Burnley) and Jan Thielmann (1. FC Köln) had to leave due to injuries.
On Sunday, the German youngsters leave for Georgia, where they start the tournament against Israel on Thursday.
