The German U17 footballers managed their second win at the European Championship in Israel and qualified early for the quarter-finals.

Coach Marc-Patrick Meister’s team beat Luxembourg 3-0 (2-0) in Rishon Lezion. The youngsters won the opening game against Italy 3-2 on Monday.

Mainzer Nelson Weiper (7th minute), captain Laurin Ulrich (27th) from VfB Stuttgart and substitute Arijon Ibrahimovic (70th) from Bayern Munich scored the goals for Germany.

On Sunday (7:00 p.m.) the last game of the preliminary round is against hosts Israel. The quarter-finals will be played next Wednesday and Thursday, with the final taking place in Netanya on June 1st.

The 2020 and 2021 tournaments in this age group had been canceled due to the corona pandemic. In 2018 and 2019, the German selection was eliminated in the preliminary round of the European Championship. The last German U17 title so far was in 2009.
