German U17 celebrates second victory at EM

Rishon Lezion (dpa) – The German U17 soccer players managed their second victory at the European Championship in Israel and have the best chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Coach Marc-Patrick Meister’s team beat Luxembourg 3-0 (2-0) in Rishon Lezion and took over the top of the table with six points. The youngsters won the opening game against Italy 3-2 on Monday.

Mainzer Nelson Weiper (7th minute), captain Laurin Ulrich (27th) from VfB Stuttgart and substitute Arijon Ibrahimovic (70th) from Bayern Munich scored the goals for Germany. On Sunday (7:00 p.m.) the last game of the preliminary round will be against hosts Israel (3 points). Italy (3) plays against Luxembourg. The quarter-finals will be played next Wednesday and Thursday, with the final taking place in Netanya on June 1st.

The 2020 and 2021 tournaments in this age group had been canceled due to the corona pandemic. In 2018 and 2019, the German selection was eliminated in the preliminary round of the European Championship. The last German U17 title so far was in 2009.
