Triathlete Lasse Lührs finished in the top ten in a world-class field at the WTCS race in Bermuda.
The 26-year-old native of Lower Saxony finished seventh, just one place behind the new big triathlon star Kristian Blummenfelt. The Norwegian Olympic champion from Tokyo, Ironman world champion from Utah and third in Hawaii, had won the world title over the half Ironman distance last weekend.
In the women’s race, which was also strong, Laura Lindemann missed the podium as fourth. In Flora Duffy’s home win, the 26-year-old from Potsdam was 43 seconds behind in third place after swimming 1.5 kilometers, cycling 40 kilometers and running 10 kilometers in 2:04:00 hours. Lena Meißner came eleventh, Marlene Gomez-Göggel was twelfth. Anabel Knoll finished 30th.
In the men’s category, Blummenfelt had to be satisfied with sixth place. He was 30 seconds behind the French winner Vincent Luis (1:49:37 hours). Lührs was again just six seconds slower than 28-year-old Blummenfelt, who is aiming to win Olympic gold again in Paris in 2024. His compatriot Gustav Iden, winner of the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii last month, finished ninth. Jonas Schomburg came in twelfth, Johannes Vogel was 19th, Valentin Wrenz 38th.
