Who will challenge Bremen’s green-gold club for the 13th World Championship title for Latin information? When does the live stream start? We’ll get you in the mood to dance.

The countdown has begun, the tingling sensation has begun – on Monday at 7 a.m. German time, the World Latin Information Championships begin with the quarter-final round. Twelve teams are fighting for the dance crown in Hong Kong and the Bremen Green-Gold Club wants to defend its world title with the new choreography “Freedom and Peace”.

Which formations are dancing? When does the live stream start? What are the rules of the Dance World Championships? Here’s everything you need to know to get started:

1. How does the World Dance Championships work?

This time everything is a little different. The venue is not Bremen, Braunschweig or Vienna, but Hong Kong. And since dance competitions are held in the “Queen Elizabeth Stadium Arena” over several days, the Latin Information World Championships unusually takes place on a Monday. In addition, due to the seven-hour time difference in Germany, it is not an evening event, but the new world champion is chosen before the traditional coffee and cake time.

Twelve formations will compete in three rounds on Monday. What would otherwise be danced as preliminary rounds, intermediate rounds and finals, the organizers in Hong Kong now refer to as quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. However, the mode is the same. With one exception: none of the twelve teams should be eliminated in the quarterfinals. Normally two to four teams would be eliminated afterward, depending on how many competed. Last year, 14 competed and four were eliminated after the preliminary round. This time twelve formations will dance in the quarter-finals, twelve in the semi-finals and six in the final.

3. Buchholz instead of Bremerhaven

TSG Bremerhaven had already booked the flight tickets and hotel rooms in Hong Kong. Then things turned out differently. The sports court of the German Dance Sports Association upheld Blau-Weiss Buchholz’s complaint that the World Cup ticket would only be awarded at the German Championships. And there the Buchholzers danced their way to second place ahead of Bremerhaven and thus participation in the World Cup alongside the Green and Gold Club.

With the choreography “Made to love,” the Buchholzers hope to make it to the final in Hong Kong as World Cup debutants. With so many unknowns in the field, the chances are not easy to assess, but the North Germans’ goal is not presumptuous. Coach Franziska Becker’s team has prepared intensively over the past four weeks since the German Championships and can hardly wait to get started: “The tingling and anticipation is there – this is the first World Championship for all of us and then in Hong Kong, that is something very special. You might not experience that again,” said department head Olaf Steffen at buten un binnen.

4. Green-Gold has their sights set on world title number 13

By winning the German Championship, the Bremen Latin Information had passed the baptism of fire of the new choreography “Freedom and Peace” with flying colors. Now it remains to be seen how it holds up in international comparison. Coach Roberto Albanese’s team starts the race as defending champions and favorites. However, preparations in Hong Kong have not yet gone optimally.

Since the parquet boards in the competition hall are smaller, the Bremen formation has to completely rehearse the familiar running routes within two days. The automatism, the blind familiarity, is gone for now. A bad surprise for the world champion, who is already under enough pressure as the favorite. The formation will have to show on Monday whether they can overcome difficulties again.

5. 3.0 rating system instead of folding boards

A little rule knowledge: A formation choreography lasts six minutes, but only three to a maximum of four and a half minutes are counted. The so-called march in and march out are only part of the overall impression. In any case, all five Latin dances (Samba, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Paso Doble and Jive) must be shown in the choreography.

Each of these four groups of three is responsible for one of the four evaluation categories. The World Cup will be judged using the WDSF 3.0 system, in which twelve judges will be divided into four groups. Each of these four groups of three is responsible for one of the four evaluation categories: technical quality, movement to music, team harmony and choreography. The 3.0 system is more transparent for viewers; up to a maximum of ten points (Outstanding) can be awarded per category. For a perfect performance you would be rewarded with a total of 40 points.
