The end of the German tennis men’s team at the United Cup is perfect. For Alexander Zverev, the preparation for the Australian Open starts disappointingly.
With a win against Tallon Griekspoor, Pole Hubert Hurkacz sealed the German tennis team’s exit from the United Cup. Even before the other games between Poland and the Netherlands, the German team around Alexander Zverev had practically no chance of progressing after their own defeat against Poland – only a straight 3-0 win for the Netherlands would have mathematically given a chance. Hurkacz won his match 6:3, 7:6 (7:4).
Germany lost 3-0 against Poland on Monday, with Zverev in particular disappointing in the 3-6, 4-6 win against Hurkacz. He suffered his first defeat this year. At the start, the German team defeated the Netherlands 3-0.
The three group winners and the best group runner-up in Sydney and Perth qualify for the quarter-finals. The United Cup serves as preparation for the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam tournament of the season begins on January 18th in Melbourne.
