The German speed skaters were unable to continue their recent upward trend at the start of the first two World Cups overseas.
Moritz Klein achieved the best result in Calgary, Canada, with 17th place among 20 runners over 1500 meters. Despite the season best of 1:45.32 minutes, the man from Erfurt was 2.39 seconds slower than the winner Wesly Dijs from the Netherlands in 1:42.96 minutes.
In the weaker B group, the German record holder Stefan Emele clocked 1:46.42 minutes in his fastest race of the season so far.
This Saturday the World Cup will continue with four more decisions. Another World Cup event will be held December 16-19 at Calgary’s Olympic Oval, known for its fast ice.
