German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has asked for “forgiveness” for the atrocities committed by German colonials in Songea at the beginning of the last century. In that town in southern Tanzania, an uprising by the local population was violently suppressed. Between 75,000 and 300,000 people died during the uprising, mainly from hunger.
