The German police have ended an hour-long hostage taking at a pharmacy in the center of the southern German city of Karlsruhe with a raid. A man was arrested.
Several people were held in the building for hours. They were unharmed, police said. According to German media, a ransom of millions was demanded.
The wider area was cordoned off when the hostage-taking started around 4:30 p.m. An emergency shelter was arranged for people who could not go home.
The pharmacy in question was attacked by a masked robber at the end of January to steal a liter of methadone.
