German number one for Struff only a minor matter

For Jan-Lennard Struff, rising to number one in German tennis would only be a minor matter.

“I look at myself and am happy about my results and the best world ranking position of my career,” said the 33-year-old, who could pass Alexander Zverev in the coming week, in the DTB interview: “With Sascha we have someone who has been years the clear number 1 in Germany.”

That he’s with his best career finish as an ATP-28. has come so close to Zverev is mainly due to the protracted injury of his teammate from the German Davis Cup team, Struff added in the DTB interview: “I’m sure that he too will soon be back up the rankings will stand.”

Struff had recently reached the final of a masters tournament for the first time in Madrid and is the man of the hour in German tennis.

He will be seeded at the French Open (from May 28th). “That’s definitely an advantage, but there are also many players who are really dangerous outside of the seeding list,” said the Warsteiner: “I would be lying if I wasn’t highly motivated at the start in Paris. But I’ve always done well to communicate specific objectives only within the team.”
