German neo-Nazis unabashedly celebrate with swastika and eagle: “What’s your problem?” | News

In Germany, a video from the state of Saxony causes commotion. The images show how a group of men in a public allotment unabashedly throw a party at a tent decorated with Nazi flags and symbols. A 23-year-old woman points out to the men that such flags are prohibited. “What is your problem? Go away,” it says.

Emily, a 23-year-old woman, was walking with her family through a public allotment garden in Gärtitz (Döbeln) on May 19. It is located in the state of Saxony, between the cities of Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig. The woman bumped into a group of men celebrating “Männertag” (Father’s Day) around a campfire. They did so at a red and white tent, which was decorated with swastika flags and a Nazi war flag with an eagle. The men sat around barbecue and campfire, with beers.

The young woman filmed the scene and approached the group. She asked the men if they knew that such flags are prohibited. However, the men seem unaware of any harm. “We celebrate Männertag (Father’s Day)”, it sounds. “What is your problem anyway?”

Police ‘looking the other way’

The young woman called the police and immediately posted the images on Twitter. The police social media team responded to the footage asking if the police had been notified. “Yes, but no one thought it necessary to come,” the woman responded. She later stated to RTL that she thinks that the police often “look the other way” when dealing with neo-Nazis.

The police later sent another team to the scene, but by then the Nazi symbols had already disappeared. The identity of the fourteen men present has been noted. One of them turned out to be known for similar facts.

“Camera and sound on”

The German state of Saxony has had a large group of supporters of the extreme right for many years. “We have a major Nazi problem,” district administrator Dirk Neubauer (SPD) confirms to RTL. According to Neubauer, what the woman did requires a lot of moral courage. “Camera and sound on, that’s exactly what we need,” he responds. The 23-year-old woman has since received threats from the extreme right.
