German NBA star cancels Olympics

National basketball player Maxi Kleber from the Dallas Mavericks has refused to take part in the Summer Olympics in Paris.

“No, I won’t be there. Some things just aren’t meant to be. Everyone goes their own way,” said the Würzburger in the “ran” interview.

Before the World Cup, in which Germany sensationally won gold last September, Kleber had a public argument with national team captain Dennis Schröder and subsequently canceled his participation in the World Cup.

Before the turn of the year, Schröder symbolically shook hands with Kleber with a view to the Olympics, but there will be no return to the German team for the time being. “For now, I’m concentrating on the NBA season. In the past, I’ve had a lot of injuries that have held me back in various things – including in the summer, when I couldn’t be there because it just wasn’t physically possible. I know mine Body is best, and I know where the limits are, or have learned by now,” said Kleber.

After the World Cup triumph, there was a short discussion with Schröder, who triggered the dispute with Kleber with comments in a podcast (“Sorry, you don’t have a game”).

“When he was still with Toronto and we played at home against the Raptors in the fall, we chatted shortly before the game. I congratulated him on the World Cup title and the MVP award. We left it at that,” said Glue dry.

Kleber believes that national coach Gordon Herbert’s selection from the German Basketball Federation (DBB) will achieve a top placement at the Olympics.

“They have gained a lot of self-confidence and a lot of depth over the last two years. Of course I hope that everyone will be healthy. Then I think we can do a lot,” said Kleber: “They could become the surprise team again , although you don’t have to say surprise team because they have the talent to get into the top five. And of course I hope that they can compete for a medal again.”
