German national team | Flick’s secret World Cup squad list revealed

For organizational reasons, all nations participating in this year’s World Cup in Qatar are required to nominate a provisional squad list that can accommodate up to 55 players a month before the start of the World Cup on November 20th. It was recently revealed which players the German national coach Hansi Flick put on this shortlist.

Visa formalities, procurement of accreditations, compliance with the Corona regulations: For several reasons, FIFA stipulated that the 32 World Cup participants name a large squad with their possible players last Friday. This must then be reduced to a maximum of 26 players before the tournament starts.

The “picture” revealed on Monday a large part of the up to 55 players reported by national coach Flick and his team to the World Football Association for this purpose.

As was announced shortly beforehand, Mario Götze from Eintracht Frankfurt, for example, is on the DFB’s 55 list. The 2014 World Cup hero has not played a single international match for five years, but has made 63 appearances for Germany in his career to date (17 goals).

In addition to the established players in the DFB team, such as the Bayern stars around Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller, as well as top European players such as Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona), Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), Kai Havertz (FC Chelsea) or Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City) there are also some other quite surprising personal details on the national coach’s list.

For example, Hansi Flick still reserves the right to appoint Werder striker Niclas Füllkrug to the final World Cup squad.

The center forward from Bremen is also on the 55 list, as is Rani Khedira from leaders 1. FC Union Berlin, youngster striker Youssoufa Moukoko from BVB and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, who after his cruciate ligament rupture about six months ago this season did not play a single minute of a competitive game.
