German gymnasts strong sixth place at the World Championships

The German gymnasts took a very good sixth place in the first decision at the World Championships in Antwerp.

In the team all-around competition, Lukas Dauser (Unterhaching), Pascal Brendel (Wetzlar), Lucas Kochan (Cottbus) as well as Nils Dunkel and Nick Klessing (both Halle/Saale) collected 244,026 points.

This means that the German gymnasts’ streak has been maintained. The team has been in the top ten at all major events since the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021. The German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) team missed out on a better placement in Antwerp due to two dismounts by Kochan on the parallel bars and the horizontal bar and a mistake by Klessing on the vault.

Japan became world champion with 255.594 points ahead of defending champions China (253.794) and the USA (252.428).

Japan wins gold medal

Two days after taking part in the Olympics by finishing fifth in the qualification, Lukas Dauser only did gymnastics on two apparatus, as announced by national coach Valeri Belenki. The 30-year-old should save his energy for the individual all-around competition and especially the parallel bars final on Sunday, where he has the best chance of winning a medal.

In the team all-around competition, the Olympic and World Championships runner-up achieved an even higher score on his parade apparatus with 15.366 points than in the preliminary round, which he won with 15.300 points. On the high bar he received 13.266 points. Nils Dunkel only achieved 13.466 points on his special apparatus during his dress rehearsal for the pommel horse final.
