German Football Association – DFB Vice President: Five women a “strong sign”

Bonn (dpa) – The new DFB Vice President Silke Sinning is very confident about the coming months with the renewed German Football Association.

“First of all I have to find my place myself, I have to talk to everyone involved there,” said Sinning in a Deutschlandfunk interview. “Everyone approached me very openly. I think it will be a good cooperation.”

Sinning was surprisingly elected at the DFB Bundestag on Friday. In a secret ballot, she prevailed against the long-serving 1st Vice-President Rainer Koch, who lost his presidency seat. “Numerous people in charge from the associations and clubs have contacted me and expressed the wish that I should definitely compete. I said I’ll listen to my gut feeling,” Sinning told the “Bild am Sonntag”.

Originally, Sinning, who holds one of several vice positions, belonged to the team of presidential candidate Peter Peters, who lost the election to Bernd Neuendorf. “Certainly it is a new beginning when you have a new president. There are already many new faces. Whether it can then be a new beginning will only be seen in the coming weeks and months. It will certainly not be an easy task,” said sense

She did not expect that there would be five women in the new DFB presidium in her, Donata Hopfen, Célia Šašić, Sabine Mammitsch and, in the future, Heike Ullrich. “That’s a strong sign. But we have to repay the trust now. That’s why it’s important for us women to close ranks, we have to support each other in the presidency,” said Sinning.
