The German Football Association (DFB) has published its membership statistics with great satisfaction.
Accordingly, there are more active players, a record number of first-time registrations and a record number of club members. A total of 2.21 million players kicked the ball last season, according to the association, this is an increase of 21.5 percent and the highest value in four years.
These are 2.02 million players and 187,000 female players. However, there are deficits in the women’s division and women’s junior division, as DFB President Bernd Neuendorf admitted. “We have problems there, that’s not new. I agree with you, the numbers are alarming,” said Neuendorf when asked about it in a media round. “We will see from the EM in England that there is an impulse. I think that a bit of it will spill over.” The European Championship lasts from July 6th to 31st.
