German exports to Russia down by almost two thirds

German exports to Russia have fallen significantly as a result of the war of aggression against Ukraine.

Their value in April was around 900 million euros, as the Federal Statistical Office reported on Friday based on preliminary figures. That was 63.1 percent less than April last year. On the list of German export destinations outside the EU, the sanctioned Russian Federation slipped from 5th place to 14th place.

Overall, foreign trade with countries outside the EU exceeded the previous year’s figure by 4.5 percent at EUR 53.4 billion. The most important trading partner in April was the USA, which alone bought goods worth 12 billion euros. China and the United Kingdom followed. (dpa)
