Status: 11.10.2022 11:35 a.m

World champion Anna-Maria Wagner lost the German judo summit at the World Championships in Tashkent against European champion Alina Böhm and thus missed the hoped-for title defense.

In the quarter-finals of the class up to 78 kg, 24-year-old Böhm prevailed against Wagner, two years her senior, and will meet two-time world champion Mayra Aguiar in the semi-finals in the afternoon. Wagner, who lost after 3:39 minutes due to the third penalty, still has a chance of bronze in the consolation round.

There, the Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist will first meet Japan’s Olympic champion Shori Hamada, against whom she lost in the semifinals of the 2021 Summer Games. In Tashkent, the German Judo Federation (DJB) has so far won a medal through Katharina Menz (silver on the opening day in the class up to 48 kg).
