COLOGNE (dpa-AFX) – The development strategy game “The Wandering Village” by Stray Fawn Studio from Zurich has won the award “Best German Game” at the German Developer Award for Computer Games. Along with the awards in the categories “Best Technical Performance” and the “Innovation Prize”, three of the coveted trophies went to Switzerland on Thursday evening.
The German Developer Award is the oldest award in the games industry and has been awarded annually since 2004. The best achievements in the development of video and computer games from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are honored.
Second big winner of the award ceremony was the puzzle adventure “Lego Bricktales” with awards in the categories “Best Casual Game”, “Best Game Design” and “Best Graphics”. In the new category “Best Game Beyond Entertainment” a game was honored for the first time that goes beyond pure entertainment. The strategy game “Beholder 3” by Paintbucket Games from Berlin takes the players into the world of a totalitarian surveillance state.
Grand Prize Winner “The Wandering Village” is a building game that takes place on the back of a giant creature called Onbu.
The game “Revita” from the developer BenStar from Buchenbach in Baden-Württemberg received the title “Best Indie Game”. In this role-playing game, players must climb a clock tower as a nameless child in order to regain the character’s memory.
The German Developer Award is presented by Aruba Events, a subsidiary of Computec Media. The company operates and publishes various online portals and magazines related to games and technology. The award is sponsored by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Game industry association, among others. The jury consists of various people from the industry – from game developers and influencers to journalists./chd/DP/mis
