German-Danish Master’s degree in Medical Microtechnology officially accredited

The German-Danish master’s degree in Medical Microtechnology was created in cooperation between the Technical University of Lübeck, the University of Lübeck and the Syddansk University in Sønderborg (Denmark) with funding from the EU program Interreg Germany-Danmark. Accreditation by the German Accreditation Council is for a period of eight years (October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2029).

“We are pleased to be able to officially start the course with the accreditation. With the University of Lübeck and the Syddansk University, we have two strong partners in the field of medical technology and microtechnology in order to optimally train young professionals and thus strengthen the economic attractiveness and sustainability of the German-Danish border region,” says Prof. Dr. Stephan Klein, lead partner from the Technical University of Lübeck.

Network of clinics and medical device manufacturers

Southern Denmark and in particular the region around Sønderborg is one of the most important production areas in Denmark. “In addition to market leaders in the field of electrical technology, electronics and mechanics (Danfoss, LINAK), there are also well over a hundred SMEs here that deal with all types of industrial electronics and mechanics, from air conditioning to medical technology,” explains project partner Prof. Dr . Horst-Günter Rubahn, Director of the Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg. This also explains why it is important for the project partners to continuously integrate hospitals and medical technology companies into the further development and organization of the course and to involve them in the development of the teaching content. In this way, students are optimally prepared for the requirements that the clinical environment and companies place on future graduates. During the course of study, stays and projects in clinics and companies combine theory and practice.

The Master’s course always begins in the winter semester, and the courses begin at the end of September. The prerequisite is a bachelor’s or diploma degree with a grade of 2.5 or better in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, physics, physical technology, materials science, computer science or something equivalent.
