German curlers with the next World Cup bankruptcy

The German curlers had to accept the next bankruptcy at the World Cup in Ottawa, Canada.

The team led by Skip Sixten Totzek lost 4:12 to the USA on Good Friday and thus missed out on making further cosmetic gains after beating South Korea (7:4). Already the day before, the German team had gambled away their last chance for the final round.

With three wins and now eight defeats, the German curlers fell back to tenth place in the table, only the six best teams reach the play-offs. The two strongest teams move directly into the semi-finals, the four other quartets play in an intermediate round for the two remaining places in the semi-finals.

In the twelfth game at the end of the World Cup, Totzek and Co. meet Japan on Saturday night, who after beating Italy 5:12 as seventh in the table can no longer qualify for the intermediate round. The Italians, meanwhile, secured the final play-off ticket. Switzerland is in the lead (10:1) and will face Sweden (9:1) in the evening. They are followed by Norway (9:2), Scotland (8:2) and Canada (8:3).
