German curlers celebrate compulsory victory

The German curlers got back on track at the World Championships in Ottawa, Canada, and scored a mandatory win.

The team led by Skip Sixten Totzek (Rastatt) won 9:6 against Turkey, who was still without a win. Halfway through the preliminary round, the selection of the German Curling Association is tied for eighth place with two wins from six games among 13 nations.

The win at least keeps play-off spots within reach after a disappointing tournament so far. Only the six best teams reach the final round. The two strongest teams advance directly to the semi-finals, while the other four quartets play in an intermediate round for the two remaining places in the semi-finals.
