25-year-old Hennig and one year older Carl won their semi-finals in Zhangjiakou, China, on Wednesday and thus qualified directly for the final. The German duo beat the USA and Austria in bright sunshine and freezing cold. The Swiss also qualified.

Carl replaces Sauerbrey

In the morning, Victoria Carl stood in for Katherine Sauerbrey, who was actually set for the team sprint and didn’t feel quite fit.

The top four teams of the two semi-finals are guaranteed their place in the final. In addition, the two teams that finish behind them with the best times qualify. In the team sprint, both participants run the 1.5 kilometer loop three times each.
