The German bobsleigh pilots delivered a dominant performance at the start of the World Cup in St. Moritz and achieved their next triple success in the pair.
The victory was shared at the same time by Johannes Lochner and record world champion Francesco Friedrich, who moved up from third place in the second run with a track record. Adam Ammour completed the German podium in third place. In the two-man overall ranking, Friedrich remains ahead of Lochner. Ammour moves up to tenth place.
While the three German duos moved within just seven hundredths of a second in icy temperatures of seven degrees below zero, the two winners were already a full second ahead of the fourth-placed bobsleigh run by Markus Treichl from Austria.
Wulff not used
Unlike what was planned for the trip to Switzerland, Friedrich sat in the bobsleigh with pusher Alexander Schüller. To be on the safe side, the team decided not to use Simon Wulff because the stimulant methylhexanamine, which is banned in competitions, was detected in a sample from the 24-year-old from the opening weekend in Altenberg. A temporary ban has not yet followed.
The women’s monobob race, originally scheduled for Saturday morning, had already been postponed to the second World Cup weekend in St. Moritz on Friday and will now take place on January 24th.
Due to high temperatures on Thursday, training for the four-man bobsleigh could not take place. Since training is a prerequisite for Sunday’s race, it was rescheduled for Saturday afternoon, while the men’s two-man bobsleigh race took the place of the mono race.
