German biathlon stars start preparation

Preparations for the upcoming biathlon season start. The German women’s team has left for the first course.

The DSV selection is currently toiling away in Herzogenaurach. The German Ski Association announced this on Friday on Instagram.

The squads have already been published beforehand. The Olympic squad consists of Hanna Kebinger, Sophia Schneider and Vanessa Voigt.

Juliane Frühwirt, Selina Grotian, Janina Hettich-Walz, Franziska Preuß and Anna Weidel complete course group 1a as part of the perspective squad.

The coming biathlon season is also the time after Denise Herrmann-Wick’s career. The 34-year-old announced her retirement before the World Cup finals in Oslo. Henceforth, responsibility must be spread across several shoulders.

Behind Herrmann-Wick (4th), Voigt was the best German athlete in the last biathlon winter as twelfth in the overall World Cup. Behind them were Kebinger (25th), Weidel (29th), Hettich-Walz (30th) and Schneider (31st) on the same level.

Preuss as reference person for biathlon jewel Grotian?

Meanwhile, Preuss was going through a real epidemic season. The 29-year-old had to end the last World Cup season prematurely in January. Previously, Preuss had health problems.

“Fortunately, the break had the hoped-for effect. The physical construction sites were cured and thus the energy and fire came back to sport. So I’m all the more looking forward to being an athlete again with all the challenges,” said the biathlete recently on Instagram and thereby sent a positive signal.

A fit Preuss will be important for the DSV team. After all, with her experience she can be an important reference person for Grotian. The 19-year-old is the great hope in German biathlon. Grotian won four gold medals at the Junior World Championships and made his World Cup debut at the end of last season.
