German archers third – pawn fourth

The German archers impressed with strong performances at the World Cup in Medellin, Colombia. The men’s team of Florian Unruh, Felix Wieser and Jonathan Vetter finished third after beating the Netherlands 5-1 in the small final. Previously there had been a 1:5 defeat against the team from Spain in the semifinals.

Katharina Bauer finished fourth in the women’s individual and thus qualified for the first time for the World Cup finals scheduled for October in Tlaxcala, Mexico. Defeats in the semifinals and in the bronze duel against the South Korean top shooters prevented a podium finish. She was satisfied, even if “losing isn’t nice, of course. I shot well and I’m confident for the World Cup final,” said Bauer.

In total, the German archers took six podium places in the current World Cup, and there were also five medals at the home European Championships in Munich. National coach Oliver Haidn therefore spoke of “the best season that German archery has seen. This is a result that will give us self-confidence for 2023 and 2024.”
