GERD is Sweden’s top newcomer of the year

When you ignore your life purpose, the universe finds ways and means to steer you in the right direction. A nice thought that everything that happens to us could ultimately be a little predetermined – the story of GERD at least suggests that.
The songwriter was born in Sweden and was a musical early starter, as it is in the book: She took part in music courses at the age of one and trained her sense of rhythm there. Engagements in musicals, plays and with the local choir followed, as well as solo lessons at the age of 13, while songs by Kate Bush, Queen and ABBA sounded from the youth room.
What was still missing was her own sound, which she wanted to discover in London. Apparently, the universe initially had other plans for her, which is why she moved to Stockholm after a year and almost wanted to give up her music career. Instead, she went to college – when she received an award for her thesis, she knew immediately that she belonged on the stage – she left college that same afternoon.
IN IT TO LOSE is her breakthrough
Their first EP would change everything: IN IT TO LOSE not only became a success in Sweden, but also found many fans in the USA and Europe. GERD says about IN IT TO LOSE: “I’ve been living with the EP for three years and my life has changed dramatically since then, but the record takes me back in time. Letting them out into the world helped release those feelings.”
GERD: Fate has decided
The name for their first release also came from self-reflection: “Everyone wants to be there to win, but not everyone can be a winner and I know for sure that by the end of writing this EP I didn’t feel like a winner have. That’s why I called her IN IT TO LOSE.” Since GERD’s live debut at the Swedish Publisher Awards last year, the newcomer has already had shows at the Avicii Arena and the Nobel Prize ceremony in Washington.
She is currently preparing to release the first single from her upcoming debut album. Anyone who has a crush on GERD’s smart lyrics and also likes the atmospheric sounds that are a bit reminiscent of Florence + The Machine should definitely keep an eye on the Swede.
