Georgina Verbaan’s career as a broadcaster of SBS 6 is very short-lived. After three weeks, her cooking show Date Smakelijk is relegated to afternoon television.
We are not actually allowed to know about the channel bosses – who nowadays try with all their might to keep the viewing figures secret – but what a flop it is in the eve of SBS 6: Date Smakelijk. This variation on First Dates scores so poorly that the third banned title of this brand new TV season is a fact.
Bummer for Georgina
While RTL 4’s Samen Uit Samen Thuis and the failed SBS 6 walking show with Jamie Trenité have been relegated to nighttime television, Date Smakelijk – currently from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM – is relegated to afternoon television. After three weeks of tinkering, the remaining episodes will be broadcast from Monday at 4:45 PM.
It is a major setback for the presentation duo Georgina Verbaan and Patrick Martens. It’s a shame especially for Georgina, because she can’t really do anything solo anymore. Without Patrick’s training wheels, the actress is nowhere. Participate in Where is De Mol? Then Patrick has to come along. Participate in The Perfect Picture? Only if Patrick participates.
Nothing without Patrick
Nowadays, Georgina no longer does anything without Patrick. At one point she even preferred to give interviews only to Patrick in Koffietijd. It must be a neurosis and this presentation job was tailor-made for her: that was also possible with Patrick. But the chance that such a duo job will happen again is very small after these low viewing figures.
Joost Maiburg, the rising ratings star of RTL Boulevard, writes on his channel Check Viewing Figures: “The first episode scored the best with 266 thousand viewers. The lowest episode had 123 thousand viewers.”
‘Very lousy’
On average, the eight episodes of Date Smakelijk for which the total figures are already known (the scores that have already been inflated with postponed viewers) attracted only 187 thousand viewers, Joost knows. “So we had to wait for this to happen, because the scores were very poor.”
