George RR Martin’s busy schedule is preventing Winds of Winter progression

While “Game of Thrones” fans are eagerly waiting for “The Winds of Winter”, the sixth installment in George RR Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, to continue, the latter apparently has other plans at the moment .

Martin: Asking about progress is ‘tiring’

“I know, I know, for many of you out there only one of these projects counts,” the author begins his update, “I’m sorry, ALL count for me,” he continues. While he admits he’s “of course” working on The Winds of Winter, he also mentions how much it bothers him to have to keep pointing out: “I’ve said it a hundred times, in a hundred different places, it is just tiring.”

He also reports on the work on the book that there was “a lot of progress” in 2020, but “less” in 2021. He adds the cryptic words: “But ‘little’ doesn’t mean ‘nothing'”. He explains the low progress of the project with other projects in which he is currently involved.

Martin’s plans with HBO

Martin is excited about the pre-Game of Thrones series House of the Dragon. “I really liked what I saw of it. I can’t wait to see more.”

Martin also commented on other HBO projects. This includes titles such as “9 Voyages”, “10,000 Ships” and another series that is set in the “Game of Thrones” universe, more specifically in “Flea Bottom”. Regarding the latter, Martin writes that it is unclear whether work on it will continue, but the other two will continue to be produced. “9 Voyages” is already running under a different name: “The Sea Snake” will revolve around the “Lord of the Tides” Corlys Velaryon, “we wanted to avoid having two shows with numbers in the title,” says Martin.

A “Tales of Dunk and Egg” adaptation is also pending, it was announced in 2021. The production is being directed by Steve Conrad, who according to Martin wants to shoot “an adaptation that is true to the story” and thus also accurately reflects the interests of the writer . “These characters and stories are very precious to me.” As for the title, Martin surprisingly reveals that a new name will be chosen so that unknowing viewers don’t mistakenly think “Dunk and Egg” is a sitcom. Instead, the titles currently available are “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” or “The Hedge Knight”.

Martin on planned animation: “Love, love, love”

Finally, the writer teases that there are plans to animate the “Game of Thrones” continent Westeros. He writes: “I’m not allowed to talk about most of what’s happening at the moment. All I can say is things are moving fast and I love, love, love the concept art I’m seeing.” He also reveals that one of the animated shows is set in Yi Ti and that a “great young writer” is working on the project. Other animations would also be pending, about which he “can’t reveal anything at the moment”.

In addition to all the positive announcements from the “Game of Thrones” universe, there was also sad news last week (March 2nd): Rickard Karstark actor John Stahl passed away.
