Game of Thrones author George RR Martin reveals his favorite episode of the series. in one blog post he writes: “I wrote the screenplay for four episodes. And yes, “Blackwater” is my own favorite of those, although I thought “The Lion and the Rose” was also very good and I have a soft spot for that episode.”
The post comes after the release of a “Vanity Fair” list of the best episodes of various TV shows. It also featured “Blackwater,” the ninth episode of the second season of “Game of Thrones.” In the episode, the Lannister armies defend the Iron Throne from a naval invasion by Stannis Baratheon’s forces.
In addition to Blackwater and The Lion and the Rose, George RR Martin also wrote The Pointy End and The Bear and the Maiden Fair.
But the author also offered praise for other shows that made the list, particularly the finale of Six Feet Under. “I’m very pleased and flattered to be in such good company,” said Martin. “Of course, no work of art is perfect… but it’s very gratifying to hear that you may have achieved it, or at least came close… for some of your readers (or viewers)… every now and then.”
“But there’s always a next time… and no matter how well (or badly) one of my stories is viewed, I always want to do better next time I sit in front of the computer.”
