GENERAL ELECTIONS | Garzón asks the left to meet in Sumar to offer a political option that excites

The Minister of Consumption and federal coordinator of IU, Alberto Garzonhas launched an appeal to all the forces of the left to work together within the add movement to offer citizens a political option that excites and serves to “improve life”.

This is what Garzón said this Sunday in a 12-minute speech before the meeting of the extraordinary federal Coordinator of IU, which meets in Madrid, two days after he announced that he will not repeat as a candidate in the general elections on July 23 .

The minister, who will continue to lead the party, has insisted that he will participate in the 23J electoral campaign helping the Sumar project led by the second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Diaz: “I will continue working to make Díaz president of the country.”

“Put the collective interest before the individual”

“It is a very important day because I have communicated to the complete management of IU my give up repeating in the next elections”, said Garzón, while stressing that he leaves the witness to other colleagues who “can contribute more than myself”, and pointed out that “in politics we must put the collective interest to individual“.

In addition, he has ensured that “the magnitude of the challenges that lie ahead, together with the message that was expressed at the polls last Sunday compel us to act in a bold, creative, responsible and generous manner”.

He recalled the 12 years that he has been on the front line of politics, his participation in 15M and his appointment as the youngest deputy in the 2011 elections. A journey that he hopes citizens will remember as a “positive contribution”.

I remember Julio Anguita

He has also had a memory for the historic leader of IU Julio Anguitawhen he assured that “politics is in every corner of daily life”, as well as for his family, to whom he now wants to “take care” and dedicate more time.

In this sense, Garzón has highlighted that when speaking of “putting life in the center” it is not enough to refer to it as an abstract concept, but that we must act accordingly, the same as with the practice of care, which does not should be limited to speeches.

“At this point, both politics and society have a long way to go,” warned the Minister of Consumption, while encouraging them to defeat the dangerous “reactionary processes that are emerging throughout the world, including Spain.”
