Kiss bassist Gene Simmons and guitar maker Gibson have released the first model in their G² collection: the Signature G² Thunderbird Bass. More bass guitars are to follow.
Works of art with “incomparable sound”
Gibson is an “outstanding company and has earned its place as the leading guitar brand among fans around the world,” Simmons enthused about his cooperation partner, according to “Consequence Heavy”. The basses from his collection are all handmade in the USA and have an “incomparable sound”. The bassist was so enthusiastic about the design that he even described the instruments as “works of art”. The appearance of the basses was particularly important to him because “people always look at them first.”
The instrument can be seen in the retro commercial:
Just the start for further projects
Cesar Gueikian, Gibson’s brand president, announced that this is just “the first of many projects with Gene Simmons.” The development of the bass guitar would have taken a little longer than a year and the result is “unmistakably Gene”. He is “involved in every aspect of developing the guitars and planning our launch.”
The concept is based on Simmons’ personal requirements and preferences for live performances. The bass is available with a laser-engraved Gene Simmons logo for 2,799 euros. The Epiphone and Kramer brands, which belong to the Gibson Group, are also to be included in future cooperations.
The bassist recently announced that Kiss’ final demise is imminent. In 2023, the “End of the Road” tour should be over after many delays and thus also mark the end of the band. In Germany, the hard rockers will also be seen live one last time.
