Gel nail refill: what it is and why do it
The term “refill” comes from English “to fill” and it means fill. This treatment, therefore, as the name itself suggests, allows you to add product to the gel manicure and rebuild the nail plate where the gel is missing.
A gel nail reconstruction done correctly provides for very precise rules which must always be respected, i.e.: correction of the curvature, adjustment of the color symmetry and positioning of the right amount of product in the areas of the nail most easily subject to lifting and chipping.
To be performed every 20/25 days, depending on the growth of the nail plate, the refill has the function of covering the nail with color again near the cuticle and where the product is missing. As the natural nail grows, it drags the applied product towards the free edge, unbalancing the proportions. Furthermore, as time passes, there is a risk that the gel cover may lift due to impacts or stress.
First step: cleaning and filing
Differently from semi-permanent nail polish, which must be completely removed during replacement, the Gel nail refill can be performed on any type of reconstruction on which gel, acrygel or acrylic has been used without completely eliminating the product.
The first step is to refresh the healing manicure, i.e. push the cuticles upwards and eliminate cuticles. Then we proceed to remove the surface of the color without affecting the underlying gel structure. We then proceed to the filing phase, working on the surface of the nail and giving back nail shape desired.
Second step: filing and shaping
At this point we move on to the refill phase, that is, filling the regrowth part with new product. After reapplying the gel or acrygel to the cuticle area, the product is polymerized inside the UV lamp to ensure extreme durability.
Third step: color and nail art
After having prepared and cured the nail you can then dedicate yourself to re-applying the colour, the most creative step. In this case you will work starting from the base, then applying the chosen shade and finally sealing the entire manicure with a top coat.

Despite being a long and complex procedure as much as that of total reconstruction, the gel nail refill has a price that is around 40/60 euros depending on the salons.
However, what is essential to keep in mind is that after four weeks of regrowth the beauty center may refuse to carry out the refill, proposing to completely reconstruct the nail starting from a natural base. So pay attention to the timing, since eliminating the gel completely every month could weaken the nails.
