Geert Wilders visits Zoutkamp on Monday, to ‘support residents’

Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), will come to Zoutkamp on Monday. The politician announced this on Twitter.

Wilders says he wants to “support residents against the asylum drama” with his visit.

The reason is the unrest that has arisen in the village, because an emergency reception center for about six hundred asylum seekers has been opened at the Marnewaard. They stay there temporarily and wait for registration.

Since the opening, residents of Zoutkamp have complained about nuisance and an unsafe feeling. The owner of the supermarket, for example, catches asylum seekers stealing every day. On Wednesday, a shop opened at the Marnewaard, run by volunteers. For example, asylum seekers are discouraged from leaving the site.
