Geert Hinskens succeeds Mark Ortega at handball players Volendam

The handball players of Volendam quickly found a successor to trainer Mark Ortega. The 32-year-old Geert Hinskens will be the trainer in the fishing village next season.

Ortega indicated last week that he and his family are going back to his native United States. Volendam was already in talks with Hinskens to sign him as assistant coach, but after it became known that Ortega was leaving, the club asked if he wanted to become head coach. “It was a quick switch. You get more responsibility and it takes more time. After consultation at home, I quickly figured it out,” says Hinskens

More public and youth the chance

The 32-year-old Amsterdammer indicates that he is currently looking for an assistant coach and a team manager. He would like to play handball more attractively with the club and attract more audiences.

Hinskens is also busy with the selection for next season. “In recent years, youth has been somewhat neglected. An important task is to give young boys from the youth academy a chance,” says Hinskens.

Hinskens indicates that he will know more about what the selection will look like next season within three weeks. There is a good chance that Florent Bourget will leave. The club is still in talks with Aboubakar Fofana

Quintus – Volendam

Hinskens is currently the trainer of Quintus. The game between Quintus and Volendam is scheduled for Saturday. “I will do everything I can to take two points from Volendam,” Hinskens responds soberly.
