Never before have the DJs of radio station Qmusic had to give away so many hints: four help lines were needed to guess the sound this year. At that time, the prize pool was more than filled, and the 35-year-old Geert from Ten Boer made his mark.
The DJs are still just as amazed as Geert himself. The answer? Pulling the sound of a fire blanket from the holder.
There had already been 491 wrong answers, but answer 492 hit the mark: “I’m completely shaking here,” Geert admitted live on the radio.
The first hint was that DJs Mattie and Marieke had to fold origami together, a hint to the fire blanket that is folded in the cover. At the second hint, two accordions played the song ‘In ‘t kleine café aan de harbour’. These instruments are also known as pull bags and the number refers to the catering industry, where a fire blanket is mandatory.
The third hint was a video of two covering turtles, which refers to when you cover a fire with a fire blanket. The fourth, and final, hint was dousing your mouth with milk after eating a spicy cake. Geert himself admitted that he needed all the hints to find out what the sound was: “You (the DJs) were talking about putting out the fire. Then the penny dropped.”
