The Tour de France will break with tradition in two years. In 2024, the finish of the Tour de France will not be on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. but in Nice. This is reported by the generally well-established Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
That year the start is in Florence and that is also unique, because Italy has never been allowed to organize the ‘Grand Départ’ of the Tour. Organizer ASO does not want to confirm the messages.
According to the newspaper, the Tour has to divert in 2024 because Paris is then busy with the final preparations for the Olympic Games. The final leg on July 21 is just five days before the opening ceremony of the Summer Games. That is why Nice, the seaside resort on the Côte d’Azur, has been designated as an alternative finish.
According to the Gazzetta, the first three stages will take place on Italian soil and the peloton will only cross the border to France in the fourth stage.
This summer the Tour starts on July 1 in Copenhagen. In 2023, the Spanish Bilbao in the Basque Country will be the setting for the Grand Départ.
