Nearly the entire population of Gaza has been displaced by the genocide and devastating attacks in the Gaza Strip. Many Palestinians sleep in makeshift tent camps. They were flooded by the heavy rain and gusts of wind from Storm Byron, which has been ravaging Gaza since Wednesday. Several residents were killed by the storm, including three children, Al Jazeera reports.
Tents and homes collapsed due to the storm. According to the UN agency International Organization for Migration (IOM), almost eight hundred thousand displaced Palestinians are at risk of ending up in dangerous circumstances.
There are still few aid supplies entering Gaza, despite the ceasefire in early October. As a result, there is a major shortage of winter-proof tents. “The water is getting everywhere because the tents are improvised and offer no protection,” said Jonathan Crickx, a representative of Unicef Palestine who visited a camp in Deil el-Balah on Thursday morning. On Wednesday night, an eight-month-old baby died of hypothermia in southern Gaza.
