The American Coco Gauff underlined her ambitions for the US Open from the end of August in New York by winning the title at the WTA tournament in Cincinnati.
The seventh in the world rankings won the final against the Czech Karolina Muchova 6:3, 6:4 one day after her semi-final success against the Polish world number one Iga Swiatek.
With her first success in a tournament in the WTA 1000 category, Gauff was also the first teenager since Canadian Bianca Andreescu four years ago to achieve a triple with three WTA tournament wins within one calendar year.
Before her success in Cincinnati, the 19-year-old had already triumphed at the tournaments in Auckland/New Zealand and Washington since the beginning of the year. The right-hander now has five tournament victories in total.
