Gas transport company Gasunie closes its office in Moscow because of the war in Ukraine.

The Board of Directors has decided to do so. According to a spokeswoman, Gasunie will ‘gradually’ withdraw the five employees who work at the office from the Russian capital.

Contacts with energy giant

Those employees were mainly responsible for contacts with the Russian energy giant Gazprom, with which the Dutch state-owned company has always collaborated a lot, including through its participation in the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline. This is the gas transport pipeline from Russia to Germany that has been in use for years and of which Gasunie holds 9 percent of the shares.

If possible, the employees will get a new job with a gas transport company or leave Gasunie ‘in close consultation’, the spokeswoman said.

Minimum level

In connection with the war in Ukraine, Gasunie already announced that it would reduce operational contacts with Russian companies to the minimum level necessary for the supply of gas to the Netherlands and Europe. Han Fennema, CEO of the gas transport company, has suspended his duties as a member of the shareholders’ committee of Nord Stream 1.
