Gasselternijveen will probably get six tiny houses this fall

The construction of six tiny houses in Gasselternijveen is a lot closer. Research by the municipality of Aa en Hunze shows that there are no major obstacles to starting the project.

The houses must come to the Schreierswijk, on the south side of the ribbon village. The first residents should be able to move into a tiny house as early as October. The municipality will find out in the near future how much interest there is for the six homes.

Gasselternijveen has a municipal first with the houses. Tiny houses have never been built in Aa and Hunze before. The plan was devised in 2021 by Dorpscoörperatie De Brug, with the aim of building affordable homes for starters from the village.

Whether that will work remains to be seen. The municipality has adopted the plan from the village association, but cannot guarantee that the future residents of the houses will come from the village. People can register as a collective to have the tiny houses built. They do not necessarily have to live in the municipality.

“First of all, we are very happy that tiny houses are being built in Gasselternijveen,” says Piet Wolters of Dorpscoöperatie De Brug. “Although there is a slight fear that our goal will not be achieved. There is no question of disappointment: you can’t always get what you want.”

According to Wolters, the interest is good, according to him, there is also interest in the houses from the village. “After submitting the plan, we already received dozens of questions from people who are curious whether they could participate. E-mails are now also arriving at our village counter.”
