There is space for twenty detached houses on part of the parking lot (P-East) at the former Fletcher Hotel in Emmen. There is, however, a problem: there is still a gas station on the site, which could hinder housing construction. But the municipality thinks it has found a solution.
Two years ago, the parking lot, sandwiched between the Van Schaikweg, Emmalaan and Kerkhoflaan, already came into view for a different purpose. The location offers space for more than 600 cars, but is not optimally used. Moreover, hotel chain Fletcher moved to the Raadhuisplein more than a year and a half ago.
Reason for the municipality to look at a different destination, by providing space for homes on the parts along Kerkhoflaan and Emmalaan.
A hurdle to overcome was the presence of the aforementioned gas station on Emmalaan. The pump and associated land are owned by Truckpoint RED. It will have to disappear there first.
