The gas leak was located on the Zonnebeekseweg, near the Menin Gate. Work is going on there. The call came in around 11am.
It involved a leak in a medium pressure pipe. “Avoid the area and follow the guidelines of the emergency services,” the Fire Department asked. The Zonnebeekseweg was closed locally between the Meenseweg and the Jan Ypermanstraat.
Some local residents close to the leak were unable to return home for the time being and were sheltered.
“People in the area should keep windows and doors closed and switch off ventilation,” asked the Westhoek Fire Department, which also sent a Be-Alert. But around 1:30 PM the fire brigade announced that the situation was under control. Windows and doors can be opened again, and ventilation can also be turned on again.
