Gas explosion Ostend: no new victims

Three people, a firefighter, a policeman and a woman, were seriously injured in this morning’s gas explosion in Ostend. A search was made during the day for possible additional victims, but fortunately there were none.

Uninhabitable

Many homes in the vicinity of the gas explosion are uninhabitable, mainly due to glass damage. Most residents were able to go home under the supervision of the security services to collect necessary items. Four buildings in the Ooststraat are uninhabitable and inaccessible for security reasons. Those residents could not go to their homes.

The residents of the affected buildings who cannot visit family or friends will receive a meal and can spend the night in a hotel. Tomorrow at 11:30 am there will be an information meeting for the affected residents.

The police will keep an eye on the affected area throughout the night. The perimeter is preserved.

Infoline

Tomorrow the information line will be open again from 09:00 via the number 059/25 80 30. If you need urgent police help, you can contact the emergency number 101.
