Gas Commission submits price cut recommendations to government

BERLIN (Dow Jones) — The three chairmen of the Gas Commission have handed over their proposals for measures to reduce gas prices to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP). Experts had previously unanimously approved a series of recommendations on Monday night after around 35 hours of consultation.

The three chairmen, Veronika Grimm, the business wise man, Siegfried Russwurm, President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), and Michael Vassiliadis, Chairman of the Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union (IGBCE), will present the recommendations to the public at 10:30 a.m .

According to Spiegel, the expert commission wants to propose a two-stage model for private customers and small and medium-sized companies. Accordingly, in a first step in December, the state should take over the respective advance payment of all gas standard load profile customers and district heating customers. In a second stage, a compensation model is to be introduced that provides a fixed price of 12 cents per kilowatt hour for private and commercial customers. According to Der Spiegel, a percentage of kilowatt hours at a fixed price of 7 cents has yet to be determined for industry.
